Is Amoxicillin-Clavulanate Effective In The Treatment Of UTI?
I was prescribed amox/k clav for urinary infection. I was unable to urinate and previously a catheter was used to repair stricture caused by radiation treatment for prostate cancer. What urinary infection is this medication used for. The second time around they used a catheter to drain the bladder and the urine was bloody.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Amox-ac klav fights a broad spectrum of bacteria gram positive and gram neget such Eserichia coli that mostly causes UTI. In our clinic we dont prefere amox-as clav for UTI. We estimate it less effective and with more side effects than other drugs usually used florquinolones ( ciprofloxacine). Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Amocixilline clavulonate is an antibiotic useful for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. It is a combination consisting of amoxicillin, a β-lactam antibiotic, and potassium clavulanate, a β-lactamase inhibitor. It is used to treat a broad spectrum of bacteris from gram positive to gram negative ( e coli). It is used for UTI but is not so preferable or primary alternative. We prefer fluircinolones due to less side effects. Blood in urine is due to Infection. Do an uroculture to determine the right antibiotic for you. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
