Is Amoxicillin Effective In The Treatment Of A UTI?

Hello, My cult-urine showed Greater than 100,000 cfu/ml of Proteus mirabilis. At the ER, doctor prescribed Cefuroxime 500 mg (before culture results). Today, I visited my primary physician and she changed the antibiotic to Amoxicillin 875 mg, but I do not find this antibiotic listed for my condition. What do do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* According to my long surgical experience, when culture sensitivity report has been carried out for particular urinary infection, the medicines written as S ( sensitive ) or MS ( moderate sensitive ) will only be effective to cure the issue.
* The medicines written under R ( resistant ) will not be effective.
* I would recommend to consult with the report as scanned copy.
