Is Diphenhaydramine Safe For Runny Nose Treatment?

Our 8 month old is taking amoxycillin due to an ear infection, and childrens ibuprofen to comfort pain from teething. He is also congested and has a cough. We went to the doctor because of the cough. The Dr. prescribed the antibiotic for the ear infection, and said it was ok to take with ibuprofen. Can we give children's benadryl (Diphenhaydramine HCL USP 12.5 mg/5mL dose) to alleviate a runny nose as well? If so, should we stagger when we give him medication so it's not all at once?

Hi,
Thanks and welcome to HCM.
Continue the medicines prescribed by your doctor.
For nasal congestion you may add saline nasal drops locally.
Benadryl can be given 2.5 ml twice daily if required.
Steam inhalation is more helpful.
Hope this reply is OK for you.
Further queries invited.
