Is GRS Ultra Supplement Safe To Take?

I watched an infomercial online about cell defense. I ordered the bottle which arrived today and I have not opened. It is called GRSULTRA Cell Defense Dietary supplement. It has a high content of selenium; 200mcg (364%) I am on other meds and now have buyers remorse. I should have checked with my doctor first. What should I do?

Hello,

You provided incomplete data. It's not safe to take GRS ultra supplement while on certain other medications. GRS ultra is a nutrient supplement that supplies the body with essential glutathione. Glutathione is a highly powerful disease-fighting nutrient (antioxidants) that combats diseases in the body. GRS ultra supplement also contains selenium.

Taken at normal doses, selenium does not usually have side effects. An overdose of selenium may cause bad breath, fever, and nausea, as well as liver, kidney and heart problems and other symptoms. At high enough levels, selenium could cause death.

Besides selenium may also interact with other medicines and supplements, such as antacids, chemotherapy drugs, corticosteroids, niacin, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and birth control pills. It is also associated with a risk of skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) and prostate cancer.

So, in view of the above I advise you to consult your treating doctor to review the prescribed medications and to prescribe an alternate effective but safer anti-oxidant for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dietitian & Nutritionist Kathy Shattler's  Response
Hello,

The tolerable upper limit for selenium for adults is 400mcg per day so it has not exceeded that. However, taking such a high level of selenium over any period of time may cause toxicity and an imbalance in other nutrients. Since you haven't opened it you may want to reconsider is benefits versus risks and return it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kathy Shattler
