Is HIV Transmission Possible Through Inanimate Objects?

A patient came and was bleeding in his fingers.he asked me for a plaster. After he touched and tried to open the plaster he asked if I could open it for him. My points are: 1. I open the plaster and I couldn t see any sign of blood in the plaster. But there might be some microscopic drops of blood 2. I didn t have any recent open cuts in my fingers 3. I washed my hands straight away 4. The patient was methadone addict Am I at any risk of contracting HIV or any disease?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If there was no blood in plaster and your hands had perfect untouched skin, no cuts or injuries I believe you don't have risk of contracting HIV. I think there is no HIV test needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
