Is MRI Necessary In Case Of Planter Fasciitis?

I have been suffering for a year now from planter fasciitis and after having 1 cortisone injection recently the soreness has returned and my doctor prescribed an MRI. This is an expensive out of pocket exercise and I m wondering why he suggested it and whether it is worthwhile

Sorry to hear about your problem.
May be your doctor might be looking for other pathological entities like dupuytren's contracture. However with good clinical acumen one can clinch the diagnosis straight away.
My first mode of action after noting the treatment that you have already taken, is use a night splint for your lower leg and ankle. You need to wear this for a month during your sleep time. This keeps the leg in a stretched manner and diminishes pain.Next I would recommend a soft MCP-material based footwear both for indoor and outdoor wear. For immediate relief I would take a short course of IFT and ultrasound physiotherapy and an anti-inflammatory.
You should try these as outlined for definite relief. Further you could try a PRP based injection at the inflammation. As a last resort release of the thick plantar fascia (operation) is recommended.

Hope this helps
