Is Meclizine Sufficient For Dizziness Which Was Experienced For The Past 48 Hours?

I ve been dizzy for the last 2 days. I had an EKG performed and it was fine, also, had a urine test and that was also fine. I was prescribed meclizine because years ago I suffered from vertigo. My husband wants to take me to the ER but I don t think I need to go. Today, I feel light headed but able to move around.

1. As you have checked your symptoms with a Doctor and the tests were normal, but since I'm unable to examine you directly, thus my approach in your case would be:

i. If the test were performed by your Primary care Doctor then consult a Cardiologist or get a second opinion.

ii. As the age advances Cervical spondylitis is the commonest cause, even then:

iii. If symptoms are severe or associated with any neurological sign, consult a Neurologist.

iv. Check with your blood pressure, neck movements and look for pallor & murmur [Cardiologist opinion], and ask for cochlear symptoms [deafness & tinnitus] & vestibular symptoms [vertigo & nystagmus]

iv. If the symptoms are not promptly controlled, ask for Hb%, X-ray cervical spine [AP & Lateral], ENT & Ophthalmic checkup [ as Vertigo was present earlier], till then:

- bed rest, avoid movements if symptoms are severe.
- tablet cinnarzine 25 mg [thrice daily] till symptoms are controlled.
- capsules B complex: twice daily.

PS. check baseline investigations like serum electrolytes, thyroid, and cholesterol profile and blood sugar level.
