Is Prednisolone Syrup Effective In Treatment Of Cough And Wheezing?

My 14 month old son is having wheezing and wet cough for the last 6 months. He wakes up 3 to 4 times at night b'cos of cough. We have tried inhaled and nebulised budesonide and salbutamol, montelukast granules. He has now been prescribed prednisolone syrup. Is this the right medicine?
