Hi,

Silverex ointment contains Chlorhexidine ointment and Silver sulfadiazine. Both the antibiotics which inhibits the bacterial growth, spread to the surrounding skin and into the bloodstream which may results in sepsis. Chlorhexidine causes pain, burning, itching, etc. Chlorhexidine may cause serious side effects in high doses. Since topical chlorhexidine gluconate contains only 0.2%, it is not toxic. Silversufadiazine causes pain, itching over the site of application. There is no serious life threatening side effects for the cream.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
