Hi, thanks for asking form HCM.

I can understand your concern. The big lump at injury site occurs due to collection of blood/reactive fluid in skin layers as a result of trauma/inflammatory reaction after trauma.

It usually subsides on its own in 10-14 days. To Fasten relief, you can follow few tips
: You are already applying icepacks which is good. You can apply it 4-6 times daily
: Keep his head at higher level than chest
: You can give him syrup Ibuprofen after proper prescription. It will decrease his pain and relieve swelling
: If it persists or increases in size, consult doctor. The doctor will evaluate it for hematoma collection or abscess formation. Both need surgical evacuation and dressing for sometime.

Hope it will help him. Thanks, take care.

Hi
The bump is a hematoma--a collection of blood under the skin, and it will be absorbed in time

That said, he really should have a doctor check him out just to make sure there's no skull fracture
