Is A Perforated Septum Dangerous?

I have had two reconstructive procedures done on my nose and septum. About four years ago I had monster of all sinus infections that caused my septum to open right up. I blow and swab my nose out alot. I can't stand the fact that I have stuff just blocking my breathing right up. Not to mention that it's disgusting! Is a perforated septum dangerous? Can I live with this the rest of my life? Or will the exterior portion of my nose cave in? I don't think I could stand for another surgery.
