Is Abrupt Stopping Of Pristiq Tablets Advisable?

I am scheduled for a CT Myelogram on June 17 and have been told I must stop taking my daily 100mg Pristiq tablet, for two days prior to the procedure, the day of, and two days after, for a total of five days with no Pristiq. I have taken Pristiq for a long time. Is it safe to stop taking it for five days and then start again?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. It should be 17th July, I guess. Pristiq is Desvenlafaxine and the drug is a SNRI drug. Since you are taking the drug for long time so it is not advisable to stop the doses abruptly because this may result in withdrawal symptoms. As you are taking 100 mg per day in my opinion you can reduce the doses by 25 mg every 5 days and can stop the drug prior to your procedure. Dose reduction in this manner will not cause any significant withdrawal symptoms. Please discuss with your psychiatrist before reducing the doses.

Thanks, Hope this helps you.

Take care
