Is Accidental Pricking Of Used Lancet By A Child Harmful?

My husband was diagnosed with Hepatitis C many years ago and did have treatment for approx. 18mos for this, his labs afterwards showed undetectable levels and was considered cured? He recently was diagnosed with diabetes and has been checking his BG levels, our 13 year old son was messing around with his kit, my husband didn t remove his last used lancet and I recently found out our son was poked with this lancet the other day, do I need to be concerned, because I am!!??

Hello,

Poking with his lancet will put at higher risk if the needle is with fresh blood than with dried one although dried blood still carries the virus. Plus, your husband had Hepatitis C before your son was born, so, your son still carries the risk of having the virus. To put your mind at ease, should consult with your primary doctor and run hepatitis C testing to your son. Observatory/preventive tests should be carried out though as you all are living together.

All the best. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
