Is An Epidural Shot Effective In The Treatment Of Lower Backache?

I have grade 1 spondylolisthesis at L4L5 and bulging disc in the lumbar location with narrowing of the foramen....constant pain across my lower back and down my left hip, knee and tingling sensation down my leg to the toes......I was sent to a pain management/spine dr. he plans to do an epidural injection....my question is...will this fix the problem or is it a bandaid for a period of time.....would decompression and fusion fixed the problem for the long term?

Hello
Welcome to Ask a Doctor service
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If this is the lesion of L4 L5 then surgical procedure is the best to cure it but it is all depends upon the severity of disease and the skill hand of the surgeon, expert surgeon does it nicely, else the mild disease may not need any surgery or any invasive procedure, pain management would be enough at the most potent analgesic can be added.
Hope I have answered your query, let me know for any further assistance.
