Is Antibiotics Recommended For Fever, Cough And Cold Of A 5 Year Old

hi my kid 5yr old,have fever,cough,cold from 5 days
i am giving him antipyretic medicine only,still he has fever???should i give him antibiotics??which antibiotic should i give him???,his wieght is 23kgs....

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. Cough and cold are viral 95% of the times in children. Viral illnesses do not warrant antibiotics. For cold you can use anti-allergics like cetirizine and for nose block, saline nasal decongestants will do. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol. If the kid is active and playing when there is no fever that is in-between 2 fever episodes, there is no need for antibiotics. Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time.
