Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom is 86, on Arecept for 3 years, Numenda for about 2.2 years. Rapid decline in last month, stopped walking, talking, eyes closed all the time. Heard Arecept only good 2-3 years, is this the end of the medicine. Such decline in 4 weeks, heard it masks dementia, and when it stops working huge changes.
I am so sorry to hear about your mom's health state. It is rather unfortunate that despite the best advances of medicine, drugs for dementia have not been able to fully prevent the onset of this disease or adequately control it. Arecept often shows great improvement in the early stages but later on, it has little or nor significant change on the mental state of the patient. I understand how difficult it is to watch a loved one go through this but I will encourage you to stay strong and be there in these very difficult days of hers.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD.
