Is Bowel Resection Effective In The Treatment Of Diverticulitis?

I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis about 5 years ago. I have had several episodes of pain, and the last doctor i saw said if i had another bou , he wanted to do a colonoscopy and possibly a bowel resection. Does this sound right to you? When I was diagnosed, that doctor NEVER mentioned bowel reduction.

I can understand your concern.
If there is single diverticula then endoscopic removal is the treatment of choice.
But when there are multiple diverticulae, bowel resection should be done.
Diverticulitis can cause malignancy in later part of life. So bowel resection also prevents risk of malignancy in the future.
So bowel resection is treatment of choice for recurrent diverticulitis.
