Is Brain MRI Needed For Episode Of Acute Pain In Shoulders, Weakened Arms, Cervical MRI Showing Protruision With History Of Head Injury?

Hi, My husband has head injury in 2008 and had a Cervical surgery in 09. But he still has pain in arms and legs and suddenyl had an episode of acute pain in both shoulders (cannot lift) and has severe weakness is right arm and left arm is a bit better. Had cervical MRI and it shows mild protrusion which does not explain symptoms he is having.(according to docs). Prescibed a Brain MRi. What does brain MRI show or what is it used for?
