Is Bright Red Blood In Stools Be Due To Intake Of Red Wine?

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, i WENT ON HOLIDAY, AND WAS WATCHING MY FOOD CONSUMPTION. I THEN DRANK A BOTTLE OF RED WINE. FROM THEN ON FOR 48 HRS I HAD BRIGHT RED BLOOD IN MY STOOL , IN THE TOILET BOWL AND ALSO ON THE TISSUE. WHY IS THIS, IS IT PURELY BECAUSE OF THE ALCOHOL. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE THEN AND I HAVE NOT DRANK AGAIN EITHER. THIS WAS 2 WEEKS AGO

Hello,

It may be due to red wine only. But other possibilities like haemorrhoids or upper GI bleed or fissure etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Check it out a stool for occult blood and microscopy. Use tablet pantoprazole before breakfast for one week.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
