Is Colposcopy Necessary If Having Vaginal Spotting?

Hi i am 22 and have recently been given a appointment for a colposcopy examination due to the symptoms i have experienced over the past months.

1) i have been spotting for about 3 days on the run up to my period for about 5months now and have always been regular prior to this. 2) i had 3 periods within 6weeks. 3) i bled after a sexual health examination and 4) my GP swobbed my cervix and i bled on contact. However the hospital and my GP practice seemed to mess uo my referral and now am having to wait weeks for an appointment. My sypmtoms have stopped apart from the spotting before my periods and don't know if i am waisting their time by attending the appointment. i am quite young and i know they don't give pap smears to my age because of the amount of false possitive that occur. so my question really is if the appointment is nessesary? i would have thought it there was a problem then symptoms would persist?
