Is Continuous Spotting In 45 Year Old After Taking Norethisterone Normal?

Hi! I m 45 years old and suddenly my periods have gone haywire. I got my period after 2 months with a lot of clots, and after 2 weeks had a D&C done which turned out ok. After a 25 day break, I bled lighty for 32 days. Then after a 20 day break, I had started bleeding heavily with clots. A GP has started me on norethisterone 3X a day and Marvelon. 2 days on these and I still am spotting. Is this normal?

Hello,

As a first line management you can take drugs like tranexemic acid to control bleeding.

If bleeding persist better to consult a gynaecologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
