Is Dent Formation On An Infant S Forehead After A Fall A Sign Of Something Serious?

Hi, my 14 months old fell down last week and hit her head to the edge of the chair. She has a dent on her forehead which turned to a bump later on. It has been 8 days and now I can see a darkness as well as a hint of dent on her forehead. Is it permanent or is there a chance it might heal?

Hello, the soft tissue injury or bruise will usually heal without complication. The dent that you are describing though is a possible sign called a step off sign of a skull fracture. If you can feel an uneven edge around the area of injury, she may need an imaging study to further evaluate. Please contact your doctor's office. In addition any signs of fever, excessive irritability, vomiting, lack of coordination, should be brought to your doctor's attention immediately.
