Is Discontinued Bleeding From Gash On Forehead A Cause For Concern?

My 19 year old daughter hit her head about an hour ago on the medicine cabinet and had a little gash on the top of her head that was bleeding a lot but the bleeding stopped. She said she was light headed at the time but she claims she is fine now and feels ok. I noticed around the gash it is swollen about the size of a quarter. Should I take her to urgent care?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swollen gash is due to hit. You can apply cold compresses locally for the following 48 hours. Then, it might become bluish, and you can apply alternating warm and cold compresses locally until betterment. For the moment, no need to send to ER, just apply cold compresses. If she will feel lightheaded that won't stop or fainting, should see neurologist. Otherwise, do not need to send anywhere.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
