Is Enlarged Adenoid Causing Breathing Troubles At Night?
my daughter is 5 years old, she has breathing trouble at night , when we consult a ENT doctor , he said that the adenoid is little bigger than its normal size, he give antibiotic for 7 days, I want to know, why it happen, what is the reason to become large in size, what is the remedy.
Adenoids and tonsils are basically a fighting mechanism in children so that the body is protected from general infection as these lymphoid tissues catch and try to control infection in children. Hence they are many a times enlarged and thence need medical management. So it is normal for adenoids to be enlarged in a 5 year daughter.
Your doctor has stated correct treatment. Please request for anti-inflammatory medicine, oral steroid if required, nasal decongestant nasal drops. All this will help for resolution in usual way. Surgery is required only in those with failure to respond to medical management or is causing blockage enough to cause secondary problems.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
