Is Fainting A Medical Emergency?

My husband was sitting on the couch looking at TV. He moved his head to look straight ahead (his head was looking over his left shoulder before) and suddenly felt like he was going to faint. He hasn t fainted in the 48 years we have been married. This scared him.
