Is Flying Safe While Suffering From Temporal Arteritis?

I am just about to book my trip from Canada to Spain for the end of December. However, just this week, I am being treated for suspected Temporal Arteritis (50mg Prednisone daily, Biopsy pending). I suspect that I should hold off flying until doctor has given clearance.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, flying isn't a contraindication to it however if vasculitis is associated with prothrombotic conditions chance of venous thrombosis may increase but your rheumatologist consultation after careful examination can be considered as safe to fly. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
