Is Gabapentin Effective For Back Pain?

My husband has swelling in L4 & L5 and the doctors have had him on hydrocodone, dillaudin and minor relief. They are now suggesting Gabapentin...from what I see, this med is used for seizures (he has not had any), is this typical for treatment of low back pain?

Gabapentin is a drug commonly given in patients with neuropathic low back pain. if your husband is having chronic pain due to disc bulge and nerve swelling or compression gabapentin will give him some relief. i usually start with 300 mg BD and max dose upto 1500 mg. Nortryptalline can be given along with it. Many interventional treatments are also available like epidural steroids, nucleoplasty, intradiscal ozone etc. Visit a pain physician.
