Is Gout Related With Frequent Pain In Foot And Ankle?

I have been getting frequent attacks of exccruciating pain in my foot. Usually it is in my right foot, but today is my left ankle. The pain is often bad enough that I have a great deal of trouble walking. A little over a year ago I had this happen in my knee and was told it was gout. I was given Colchicine and Allopurinol. I still get these attacks often. It is rapid onset and lasts for a few days. Could it be something other than gout? I don't think that I am doing anything to trigger it.
