Is Hair Loss, Low Appetite And Facial Swelling Side Effects Of Omnacortil?

I have been taking Omnacortil after kidney transplant. It is now 5 months post transplant and my current dose is 7.5mg. I am feeling the side effects like excessive hair loss, loss of appetite, round & swollen face which has now reduced a bit. I have started feeling sleepy all the time. After few days my dose will be reduced to 5mg. Will these side effects eventually go or not?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Omnacortil intake results in behavioural changes, swelling of face and legs, increased appetite and weight gain, glucose intolerance, Mood changes and high blood pressure. Also, hair loss is common in males. If the dosage taken is less or tapered from a high dose, weight gain and appetite are reversed (reduced) and also, the other side effects will also be reduced.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
