Herpes zoster is a viral illness more commonly seen in adults in geriatric age group of above 60 years. This infection is associated with immunodeficiency but not always HIV. HIV does cause immunodeficient state and hence all opportunistic infections are common in AIDS. Fortunately, Herpes zoster is treatable but post herpetic neuralgia is one of the common complications. Some patients also have depression as it is a very painful condition. I would suggest you support her through this and please let her complete the full course of antivirals prescribed. Thanks.
