Is Hysterectomy Recommended For An Elderly With Ovarian Cysts?
I am a 77 year old woman who s never been pregnant, was born with a double uterus one of which was removed along with a fallopian tube at age 14, and I was also born with one kidney. I also have ovarian cysts that are closely being watched. I have an ultrasound (about the 5th one) on Sept. 5 to see if any fibroids in the uterus or the cysts have enlarged on the right ovary. I am having pain on both sides along with incontenance. If I have surgery, should I go ahead and have a complete hysterectomy which was suggested by my oncologist? I am also going to have an ubilical hernia that resulted from colon surgery repaired after I have the female stuff resolved.
It is better to go for radical surgeries like hysterectomy at this age because chances for malignancy is high. Moreover uterus does not serve any purpose at this age.
