Is Increased Spotting While Having Mirena Coil Implant A Cause For Concern?

Hello I has a minera coil implanted in 2009 for heavy bleeding not for contraceptive reasons as my husband has had a vasectomy. It is still in place I have had small spotting in the past 6 months with a little more in recent months. Do i have to have it removed as its over 5 years or can it remain in to help stopping my monthly bleeding or does it have to come out due to health risks. I am 47.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
The implant you are having needs to be checked for expiry. If the date has been expired, it needs to be removed.
However, if the expiry is not yet over, you need not worry much about sporting. Spotting is a normal phenomenon in persons who are on implants.
Hope the information provided is helpful.
