Is Infertility Associated With Overactive Thyroid, Brown Vaginal Discharge?

Hello. My blood tests show an overactive thyroid. I have been having a discharge of old brown blood in between periods for over a year. I am still being tested by my doctor but was wondering if the thyroid would be a reason for the blood? and if this could mean infertility?

Hello,

Generally hyperthyroidism cause menstrual abnormality like light menstrual periods, perhaps even missed periods. You have an extra blood discharge between periods, it is not characteristic for hyperthyroidism. So, my advice is to consult an ob-gyn for an ultrasound and the necessary tests to find the cause and to have the right treatment.

You have a menstrual abnormality that can be due to hormonal imbalance and in this case, this condition can produce infertility, so it is very important to do even the hormonal tests to see if hormonal imbalance is possible to cause of your actual condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Elona Xhardo
