Is It A Matter Of Concern If Child Is Having Pain And Swelling In Knee After Falling?

My ten year old son fell during a basketball game. He played the rest of the game with no pain, but the next day there were visible bruises. The second day was worse with soreness, swelling and pain in one knee, the less bruised one of the two. Should I be concerned about any torn ligaments or take him to be checked? Any advice for the pain and swelling?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.
Give some analgesics and anti inflammatory drugs like paracetamol, ibuprofen and diclofenac containing preparations for relief from pain and inflammation.
Usually it subsides within a week.
If he is unable to walk take him to ER immediately, other wise wait for a week an d then consult doctor if necessary.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
Please feel free to ask any more queries if required
