Is It Advisable To Fly With Swollen Fingers, stomach And Legs?

A lady in my workout class was complaining about swelling in her fingers, her belly, legs and feet. She has been taking diet pills. Any idea what is causing her swelling. She is traveling on a plane this weekend, and I am wondering if she is safe to go?

Hello,

I would explain that the swelling could be related to increased fluid retention. This could be related to diet pills adverse effects.

Anyway, I would recommend performing some tests in order to exclude other possible causes that may lead to increased fluid retention:

-a cardiac ultrasound and a resting ECG in order to investigate for heart failure
-kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka
