Is It Advisable To Remove The Ovaries At The Age Of 52?

i AM 52 AND SCHEDULED FOR HYSTERECTOMY IN 3 DAYS, i AM UNSURE ON WHEATHER TO KEEP MY OVARIES. i HAVE ENDROMETIAL THICKING OF LINING OF UTERUS. Ovaries are OK. Doctor said no use to keep ovaires at my age for they are now use to me. Wants to remove ovaries, uterus and cervix. I am in turmoil on what to do. Worried about not having hormones, articles I read say ovaries produce other hormones that you need and that you die early, have risk of heart disease and dimentia. Have had 1 sister with breast cancer caught at very early stage. she was on hormones for over 20 years. she had ductal carcinoma in siter. had spot removed and radiation. Lost one sister with colon cancer at the age of 36...

Hello madam, from the history you have given, well yes ovaries do not have much of function at your age and since you have a family history of carcinoma breast and colon, it is ideal to remove the ovaries. Yes ovaries produce hormones which protect the body from other disorders, but they become function less after 45 years.hope i was helpful to you.
