Is It Advisable To Stop Anti-rabies Vaccination When The Dog Is Healthy?

Hello doctor, I was bitten by a dog and started my anti-rabies vaccination immediately. Dog belongs to my neighbor, so I ve seen him at 7, 13 and 17 day after exposure. Dog looks normal. Does that mean that dog is healthy and I can stop my vaccination? I have a very bad reaction from the vaccine. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Dog bite always carries a risk of development of rabies. It is not dependent on weather the dog remains healthy or not.
Once you have started with anti-rabies vaccine, you need to complete the course of 5 doses on specified days to develop complete immunity.
This has been recommended by WHO.
For the reactions which you are facing due to vaccine, you need to get evaluated and treated by a local doctor.
Kindly complete the injection course.
Hope the information provided is useful.
Wish you all the best.
