Is It Common To Have Surgery For Cavitary Pneumonia?
my pulmonologist has been treating me for what he suspected to be cavitary pneumonia. have had 3 ct scans and 1 bronch, after last scan I was told cavity has gotten larger. has now refered me to a surgeon. I haven t had meeting with surgeon yet but am curious if it is common to have surgery for cavity.
Hello This is a particular case ( as you mentioned in the query that this is a cavity pneumonia ) . As I have seen in my clinic that there develop a cavity and its wall surround s with membranes ( thick and serous type ) , usually in untreated or not properly treated cases. Usually this type of cavity is anywhere in the lung field but mostly in the apex of lung . If blood starts and don't respond to medicine , SURGERY is only option but if it responds to medicine usually for time being don't require surgery . I advise you consult chest & tubercular specialist and get his opinion ( 2nd one ) . Good luck.
