Is It Concerning To Find Nickel Size Oval Shape Sore On Top Palate In Children?

my grandson is visiting and he continues to cry and keep his hands in his mouth. He is 10 months old. His mom thinks he is teething . Mom says he won t eat and he has only had one bottle since he arrived 12 hours ago. I looked in his mouth when he was crying to see if i could see any teeth and then I discovered a nickel size sore only more oval shape in the top of his palate. It is very dark red and i am guessing that it is no wonder he will not eat or drink. Should I take him to emerg?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to Hcm,
The lesion you notice is not a normally seen lesion and as you rightly figured he not eating can be because of this problem. I suggest you to consult a pediatrician but surely its not an emergency. The consultation is to confirm what the problem is and to decide on if any treatment required. As of now, I would suggest you to try to feed him as and when required and if child is breast feeding , that can be tried which would help relieve part of his discomfort. Take care.
