Is It Due To Kidney Stones UTI Not Clearing Up Even After Taking Medication?
Hi my husband is on Doxcycl HYC 100mg which he needs to take 2x everyday for the rest of his life due to a blood staph infection. Recently he has developed a UTI which now has been hard to clear up. He has been on Amoxcil 875 since Nov. and now has been changed to Sulfamethoxazole TMP DS 1 every 12hrs. He is 77 yrs. He is being treated by a URO and GP Doctors My question is two fold: Can he possibly have Kindey stones? Could there be a bigger problem lurking here. Could you provide me with some clues so I can seriously talk with his doctors. Thank you Maureen
Hi UTI which is hard to clear up needs to be investigated. If he is under an urologist , I presume an ultrasound of the urinary tract has been done as a minimum which will rule out any major causes. Urinary tract stones are a possibility but the best test for that will be CT scan of the urinary tract. The other possiblility is a chronic prostatitis which is usually diagnosed by clinical findings and tests turn out to be normal.
