Is It Necessary To Have Stronger Sedation For Undergoing Endoscopy?

I'm having an endoscopy....Dr says he wants to use stronger sedation on me because he thought I was not fully under for my previous colonoscopy(same Dr is doing Endoscopy) he mentioned general anesthesia. I am a cannabis user due to my back, I have my permit through a non Kaiser Dr. When should I quit smoking....I'm what I refer to as a one hit wonder. Never smoke much more than that an evening. Also KP I'm told has a some policy in place concerning Cannabis users....I'm frightened of the ramifications if they learn of my use. Thank you so much!

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Normally, the endoscopy remains a normal day care procedure. Many patients can have it under sedation in fact

The fact remains that the anesthesia will not work very well in view of your cannabis use. So it is better to do as the doctor says, because endoscopy may become uncomfortable. And if you move during this, it can become traumatic thereby complicating the matters.

So I would suggest you go with the doctor's suggestion. Of course the risks of GA re there, but are minimum in a planned procedure

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.
