Is It Necessary To Remove The Left Side Of The Thyroid?
Hi I got results back from an FNA on a large cystic nodule with solid component. The results came back as benign however my doctor is insisting on surgery to remove the left side of my thyroid. Could it still be cancer once it is sent to pathology after surgery ? I am also waiting on a waiting list for 3 months and am concerned that my thyroid lump seems to be getting bigger
Hello, I read carefully your concern. The sensitivity of cytology in diagnosing thyroid cancer is not 100%. While thyroid biopsy after the surgical removal of the thyroid gland has a sensitivity of 100%. So you should not have any doubt about it.
