Is It Necessary To Take Levothyroxine For Abnormal TSH Levels During Pregnancy?

Hi,

I am 31 weeks preganant.I was asked by my OB to do a TSH test during my 28 week
The TSH level came out as 2.75.My OB has asked me to start taking levothyroxine 50 mcg

My concern is when I ws tested for TSH during my 6 weeks(,my OB was different then) and I had a TSH of 4.08 but she said this was normal and I was not on any medication

Now that I am into my 31 weeks will it help taking levothyroxine when my level is 2.75.Is it necessary?
Also since my TSH was 4.08 during 6 weeks and after that I never had my TSH tested until 28 weeks and was not on any medication i am worried if it has caused any problem to the baby?

Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
Low thyroid hormone levels will affect the baby(might cause decreased activity, poor growth, etc).Levothyroxine is a substitute for natural thyroid hormone and has be taken in pregnancy when the levels are low without fail to avoid the above in your baby.Advise you to be on regular follow up with your OB.Hope this helps.
