Is It Normal If The Bone At The Head Of The Fibula Sticks Out In A 10 Yr Old Child?
Hi, My daughter is 10, I have noticed that on the outside of her leg, at the head of the fibula the bone really sticks out, is this normal? (Blount disease??) I have read that this can effect the peroneus longus, which gives ankle bone pain which she has been complaining about recently. Any comments or suggestions? Regards Rob
Blounts is a possibility, as well as Legg-Calve-Perthes and a number of other benign conditions. All are easily treatable. I recommend seeing an orthopedist who will be able to make the correct diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate treatment. You should consult your pediatrician so the proper referral can be made.
