Is It Normal To Experience Pain After Having Crown Prep And Placement?

I had a tooth caped 2 days ago. I started having severe pain 3 days after and still hurts. I went to the dentist today and ground down the high parts and said this would probably take care of it in couple of days...took x-Rays and said everything looked good. My question is...could my sinuses be draining and causing my tooth/teeth to hurt? Th caped tooth is the third tooth from the back. I notice when I apply a little pressure to the cheek [between my cheek bone and nose} it is sensitive. Should I be taking medication for sinus pain instead of Advil ...I also have a mouth piece (soft plastic) I wore the first two nights after cap was applied to keep from grinding which I always wear. Could this have caused a proble?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain if after crown placement you have pain one reason can be that there are high points on the cap leading to excessive forces being applied on the tooth due to premature contact with the opposite jaw tooth leading to pain..

Other reason can be that if while cutting the tooth for seating the crown the tooth is cut in excess and there is pinpoint exposure of nerves causing nerve inflammation and pain..

In case if the tooth is root canal treated before capping then some underlying infection below the root tips of tooth can lead to pain on putting pressure on tooth..

It is tooth related problem only because in case of Sinusitis the pain is diffused and happens on a larger area..

You should consult an endodontist and get evaluated and in case of high points on cap trimming of the high points can relieve..

In case of nerve inflammation removal of cap and Root canal treatment has to be done followed by replacement of cap..

If the tooth is already root canal treated and if underlying infection is there first a course of antibiotics and painkillers should be taken and if not relieved removal of cap and re treatment had to be done..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
