Hi, my baby is 11 months and I was told by his doctor to start giving him some whole milk, so he can get used to it. However, he is reali constapted, he gets red and crosses his legs. I gave him some miralax and he got some out. It was really hard and yellow, some brown. Is that normal after introducing whole milk? what should I do?

Hello.

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your baby's history.

It is not "normal" to get constipated after introduction of milk. I would suggest you following measures to improve his constipation:

1. Add more sugar to milk. (around 10 gm in 200 ml). This will change osmolality of the milk and may help constipation.

2. Prefer warm milk to cold milk.

3. Please give your son foods rich in fiber such as green leafy vegetables, fruits, etc.

4. Please give him more fluids during the day.

5. You can use laxatives when he gets constipated. But personally I would not suggest you to use them often. It's always good to identify the cause of constipation and correct it.

Hope above measures will helpful to relieve constipation.

Wish your son the best of the health.

Should you have any query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Thank you & Regards.
