Is It Normal To Have A Sticky Looking Substance After A Silver Nitrate Treatment?

My 7 month old son had a silver nitrate treatment done on his umbilical granuloma and six hours later it is now oozing a sticky looking substance. Is this normal? I cannot get in touch with my pediatrcian (after hours) so please help! I'm very worried. It does not seem to be bothering him when I lightly press around his belly button area.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This is not abnormal. It should resolve.

If he was in any distress there would be symptoms and signs such as increased crying and irritability, decreased appetite, decreased activity, fever.

You can still consider speaking to his doctor to reassure yourself.

I hope this helps
