Is It Normal To Have Black Colored Stool While Having Stomach Problems?

My daughter, my boyfriend, and I have had the stomach bug for 2 days today. I noticed this morning when I went to the bathroom my poo is black and I told my boyfriend and he didn t seem to think there is anything wrong so all day today I ve been pooping black is that ok?

Hi,

Black stools after stomach bug is a concerns.
Black stools means malena and occurs due to intestinal bleeding or excessive iron contents in the form of iron rich food or Iron containing tablets.
Since you have intestinal problems there is more chance of bleeding in the esophagus, stomach or small intestine.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of stool and blood.
If there is bleeding then you may need admission to hospital, monitor the vitals, monitor hemoglobin level and undergo upper and lower GI Endoscopy.
Also needed is a CT scan of abdomen.
All these will help to find out the possible area of bleeding and get treated accordingly.
You will need intravenous fluids, blood if necessary and antibiotics.
Consult your Doctor or ER immediately.
