Is It Normal To Have Brown Discharge From Large Boil In Armpit?

I have had a large boil in my armpit since last Thursday. The area around it has become red and the whole area is extremely painful. I have been feeling very tired, chills, feverish and dizzy. Today when I removed the gauze bandage I had put over it I found a large amount of brownish discharge. Is this normal? I've been told the infection can become sepsis.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I think it has turned into an Abscess. The best thing to do would be to get it drained followed by antiseptic dressings till the wound heals.

Oral antibiotic should be started simultaneously, and continued for a week OR 10 days (My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg, thrice daily, for a week OR Cephalexin 500mg thrice daily OR Cefadroxil 500mg twice daily, for a week). This would take care of any remaining infection at that site.

An OTC pain killer e.g ibuprofen once or twice daily would help you deal with the pain.

regards
