Is It Normal To Have High Temp For Respiratory Infection?

Hello I have a 14 months old son that I took into the DR earlier today and he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, I took him in because he was really fussy and his temp was at 101.4 well after getting home his temp was 102.8 and got as high as 103.5 before he took a nap now after his nap it was as high as 104.4 gave him some ibuprofen since it was 6 hrs since I last did, it has gone down to 102.9 since I gave the ibuprofen but still hasn t been below 100 today. Is this normal with a upper respiratory infection? He has also thrown up.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for your question. fevers can climb that high with upper respiratory infections. We can be reassured by the fact that he has already been examined and nothing else was found. Keep in mind though, that exams can change over time. That is why i recommend that if the fever persists for 2-3 days after the initial examination, it is a good idea to get rechecked just in case.
